Certificate Applied Theology

This Certificate programmes will:

  • Equip you with a solid foundation for life and ministry

  • Enable you to reflect on your faith

  • enable you to explore your gifts and abilities

  • introduce you to life-transforming biblical and applied theological studies

Certificate Applied Theology with Youth Ministry

The Certificate with Youth Ministry will:

  • provide you with training in youth ministry

  • equip you for the challenges of youth ministry

  • enable you to explore your gifts and abilities

  • provide solid biblical and theological foundations for youth ministry

Certificate Applied Theology with Pastoral Care

The Certificate with Pastoral care will:

  • provide you with training

  • equip you for the challenges

  • enable you to explore your gifts and abilities

  • provide solid biblical and theological foundations for pastoral care

Semester dates

  1. 9th September - 18th December 2024

  2. 13th January - 7th May 2025

Admissions Criteria

All candidates will demonstrate:

  • active engagement in some form of Christian ministry,

  • appreciation of and respect for IBI’s ethos,

  • an ability to study at third level.

Entry routes to the HE Certificate programme

Academic entry: Irish Leaving Certificate: 240 points or equivalent

AP(E)L: You may apply for entry to the programme, or for credit transfer, on the basis of Accredited Prior Learning (APL) or Accredited Prior Experiential Learning (APEL).

Associate status entry: you will be required to demonstrate that you are able to work at BA level by successfully completing a semester as an associate student. Upon successfully completing and passing the modules in the first semester you can enrol for the full BA programme and transfer credits gained.

International students:

1. Non-EU/EEA/United Kingdom citizens/residents.

Due to Irish Immigration regulations, IBI is not permitted to accept applications from those who require a student visa to study in Ireland.

2. EU/EEA/United Kingdom citizens/residents.

Non-native speakers of English must have an IELTS certificate or equivalent with a minimum score of 6.0. You will also be required to demonstrate the equivalence of any qualifications to Irish/UK standards.

Bursaries: IBI has a small bursary fund for students who are serving the Irish Church and have financial needs. Please contact our Bursar for more information.

Fees for 2024/25

Certificate programme

  • Full-time - (1 year) €4,500 per year

  • Part-time - (2 years) €2,300 per year

  • HE Certificate evening course: €1,550 per year

Certificate level modules being delivered in 2024-25.

  • Ministry and Personal Development

  • Introduction to Biblical Theology

  • Interpreting and Applying the Bible

  • Overview of the Old Testament

  • The Life and Teaching of Jesus

  • Introduction to Pastoral Caring

  • Discipleship

  • Communicating the Bible in a Ministry Context

  • Youth Ministry

Evening Courses

This Certificate programme will be delivered over a Live Zoom class each Monday evening at 7 pm.

Two or three of the above modules are delivered each year.

Term dates are as follows:

  • 9th Sept - 18th Nov

  • 25th Nov - 10th Feb

  • 24th Feb - 5th May
