Church and Mission in Contemporary Ireland
Tuesday 4 th January to Saturday 8 th January 2022 on ZOOM
The contemporary mission of the church is a debated topic, particularly as the paradigm referred to as “Christendom” diminishes in Western Europe. This module offers students an opportunity to critically examine some of the current thinking about mission. Part of that analysis will be how the church of the 21st century might become a missional community able to demonstrate by word and deed the relevance of the Christian message in an increasingly globalized world.
Tutor for this module
Dr. Wesley White
Wesley is married to Cynthia and they have five children and seven grandchildren, and are actively involved in church-planting and theological education in Glasgow, Scotland. Wesley grew up as a missionary kid until the age of seventeen in what is now the Democratic Republic of the Congo where his parents served as medical missionaries.
After serving as a pastor in the United States for fifteen years, Wesley and his family moved to Glasgow in 2001 to start the Mosaic Community, a church-plant of Communitas International. The Mosaic Community recently birthed a second church that Cindy and Wesley lead called The Upper Room Church and made up almost entirely of asylum-seeking people and refugees from Muslim backgrounds.
He holds a PhD in Theology from the University of Notre Dame (South Bend, Indiana) and a D. Min from Denver Seminary. Wesley is also a part-time Lecturer in the Biblical Studies and Urban Mission tracks for the Nazarene Theological College, based in Manchester, England.
Wes loves the odd musical mix of jazz and Gustav Mahler.
